Super L33t Bolt-Action Tacticool

Alright so, if you haven't figure this out yet, I have the Hawk by airzone.  My lovely lady got it for me for Christmas. It's a quirky little blaster. Very fun to play with, I must say.
First off, the ranges for the Airzone version are approximately 30 feet. Now, I can only assume that either they have been improved in recent months or the Airzone version is better designed than the Buzz Bee Hawk, because most of the videos I have seen online claim that the Hawk MAYBE gets 15-20 feet, but I tested it multiple times, and each time the darts landed around the 30 foot mark, taking into account for dart skidding.  For anything that isn't Nerf, that is definitely a pleasant surprise.
The priming mech is very simple: you flip up the bolt, pull it all the way back, and then push it forward completely until it locks into place. That being said, it has a few issues. For one, the bolt has a tendency to feel as though it locks about 2 inches from the actual point.  Also, the trigger locks if the bolt is not in the forward and locked position. So, that can be the rather obvious indicator that you did not fully prime the blaster. This is a relatively minor issue but could be fairly annoying if you're actively using the Hawk for something besides target practice and playing around.
Next up: comfort, and while I'm at it, durability.  The Hawk is rather well made. It doesn't feel nearly as flimsy as Airzone and Buzz Bee blasters are famous for.  I suppose they've decided to make improvements.  Now, the stock certainly does not reach to my shoulder, so the stability is based on how steady or shaky your hands are.  The handle, however, fits my large hands quite nicely despite the overall small design.  The foregrip is also long enough to where there is a comfortable distance between my hands as opposed to them being right on top of each other.
The clip system is...decent. It works, well enough at least.  It is not nearly as sturdy or well designed as the Clip System clips from Nerf, but it is passable.  It does have a tendency to just shoot out all your shells while you're trying to load it, which makes reloading under pressure annoying, even if it is only a 4 dart capacity. Also, the inability to by replacement clips separately is a definite downside. The shells also tend to be rather annoying. It makes reloading difficult and it's just ONE MORE THING to track down at the end of a war. Not too bad if you tend to camp and fend off attackers from a position, I suppose, but if you're mobile, find something else.
Ok, I will give one thing to this blaster without even weighing it. IT'S SOOPER TACT1COOL. 1) it's bolt action, duh. 2) It has shells (OMG just like a "weal gun") 3) It has shell ejection, which is actually really cool, if annoying. and 4) there is storage for up to 4 extra shells in the stock.
So, for buying potential: It's not bad. If you can get it in good condition used, I suppose that would be your best bet, but if you lay down the money for it new, it's definitely not the worst decision you'll make.

A Quick Overview Of My Situation

Hey guys (and gals), derpy here. Due to certain situations, such as only having a kindle fire,I will post to the best of my ability, but that best has been sinificantly lowered because I myself do not have access to a Pc. I am absolutely happy that we have dusted the Internet cobwebs from this barren wasteland of a blog, and that now I have the time to provide any content that I can, but believe you me, it is a pain and a half. On another note: I am using my friends cameras, so when I can take pictures and post videos I will, but when I can't I can't. Its just that simple. Check back for foamy things. Happy nerfing, and may the... er...bye.

Derpy has returned

Hey guys, it's been SO LONG. Long story short, life gets in the way. If you haven't heard, I am working on a new project. I have some sketches done by my friend and I, photographed with an iphone. So, sorry for the quality..

Rubber and Bolt

So today I bought the Z-Tek Crossbow from the Air Storm line by Zinger.  It's not EXACTLY a blaster, but it IS a foam launcher.  It is pretty enjoyable, as far as I am concerned.  The box claims approximately 45 feet and I must say: this thing delivers.  When you load and nock one of the foam "bolts" and fire it, it makes a satisfying "thwack" on whatever it hits.
The cool thing about this is its firing mechanism: all the power from this launcher comes from the latex rubber tubes connected to the arms. All the tension from pulling back the tubes is stored in the bolt and when you pull the trigger, a small plastic piece that holds the bolt withdraws from the external part of the shell and the potential energy of the drawn tubes and bolt is turned into kinetic (moving) energy. This flings the bolt about almost exactly 45 feet flat with little margin for error.
It is a remarkably simple little device and has no real internals to speak of besides a peg and a safety lock. So, the modding potential of this thing is almost 0, unless you were to replace the bands somehow with more powerful ones, or make more aerodynamic bolts. Of course, that is all speculation
But to review it honestly, it's great. It does what it sets out to do and I really like it. I bought mine at Wal Mart for $25 and if crossbows or archery interests you, I suggest you at least give it a once over.

Nerf Vortex Proton Mod Guide

The new Vortex blasters by Nerf have made quite a stir in the Nerfing community. This new design and ammo type makes for a unique kind of function of the mechanics of the blaster. The important thing to realize when modding these blasters is that they are designed for distance, not necessarily speed. The discs will travel far but not nearly as fast as say a modded Nite Finder. The equivalent to the Nite Finder (single shot pull back design) in the Vortex line is the Proton. In this guide, I will be showing you how to make your Proton fire faster, farther, and smoother with no supplies other that a Philips head screwdriver and your Proton. Now lets get started.

Start by unscrewing the two screws on the muzzle of the blaster (Your welcome warden :D ).

Then continue to unscrew all the other body screws

Keep in mind that the screws are on the other side of the shell than the internals.  Now that we are on the inside lets start with the trigger box. Start by unscrewing these three screws, and removing the trigger spring. It is always helpful to place screws off to the side in the same shape in which they were in the blaster.

Then remove the trigger box. This is where almost all the locks for this blaster are located.

Now remove the other three screws and set those aside. Before you open the trigger box, you have to realize that most likely when you open it, everything will pop out in a hail of springs and locks. If you open in a box or something, the spring can be contained more easily.

Now that you have it open I will go through what each lock does.

(From top left to top right)
The first lock holds your slide back when you prime the blaster until you hit the orange release on the side to load a disk.

The second lock makes it so that you cant pull the trigger unless the slide is all the way forward, if you wan't to be able to de-prime you blaster to avoid dry firing, you need to take this one out.

The third lock makes it so that you can't pull the trigger unless there is a disk in the chamber(also should be removed to be able to de-prime the blaster)

The forth one is you catch. This is ESSENTIAL to the blaster function. make sure you keep track of that and its longer spring.

You can determine for yourself what locks you wan't to remove or keep in your blaster. Now screw in these three screws to hold you trigger box together.

Then just put it aside since we need to get to a different lock behind it latter. Keep track of these three screws.

Now onto the power mod. The great thing about these Vortex blaster is that you don't need any materials to make them shoot farther.  Nerf even been nice enough to put the proper screw ports where they are needed. To do this mod remove the spring mechanism .

There are two screws holding it in.

Now what you need to do is take the plastic arm and gently bend it over the white buffer.

At this point in the mod is where you choose how much power you want to put in your blaster. Unscrew the one Philips head washer screw and move the metal arm to the left. You can put it either on the second or third screw ports (the farther to the left you put the spring, the more power you will put in your blaster). I personally put it on the third screw port because since we are not putting in an after market spring, this extra power is not enough (with proper use) to easily break your blaster. Keep in mind that over time though, everything breaks down.

Next you gently push your plastic arm back over the white buffer

We are now done with the power mod, but before you put the spring mech back in the blaster, if you want to be able to de-prime the blaster, we need to remove one more lock.

First you remove this Philips head washer screw (you don't need to completely remove the slide by unscrewing it's return spring. Just push it out of the way). Once the slide is out of the way you should see this.

Remove the other two screws (one of mine fell out) and take out the lock entirely.

Now just replace the slide and your internals should look like this.

Now re-screw the trigger box and spring mech into place

Place on the other half of the shell and then flip the blaster over to re-screw the body screws in, then your done!

With these new mods in, the proton should hit about the same ranges as a modded Nite Finder. It is best to avoid dry firing if you took out the locks, since this will wear down your blaster.

Go pone some noobs with you new blaster and come back to nerfetc for the next guide, coming soon, on how to make a clip system for the Proton, and more.

Also, if you have absolutely any questions about Nerf, just message me or post a comment below. If you wan't a mod guide posted for just about any blaster, post a comment below.

If at any time you wan't a blaster modded and or painted for a very cheap price, or just a stock gun at lower than retail cost, just message me on Youtube. My account is Gmcnerfproj. I have a large supply of used and new Nerf blasters. Nerf responsibly

A nerf what? Gun versus Blaster

Greetings,
So, as you are all aware, the most common term for the line of dart firing toys made by Buzz Bee, Airzone, and of course, Nerf, is a gun.  It is a cultural norm.  It is also common for the darts to be referred to as bullets. The purpose of this particular post is to warn against the use of these terms.  First of all, the darts are obviously NOT bullets. They are made of foam and rubber and in rare cases, plastic.  Bullets are made of shaped metal and are placed in a shell with gunpowder that fires off the bullet when it ignites. I've never seen this action with any foam dart. Also, Nerf blasters are NOT guns. Even though they resemble them, they aren't. I recommend against using this term mostly because of the trouble it brings. For example, I am a college student. We aren't allowed to have Nerf blasters. Know why? because they are viewed as weapons! Your use of the word "gun" colors everyone's view of these harmless toys. So, please, for the sake of Nerfing, stop calling them guns.

Craigslist

Hey guys (and gals!) derpy here, just scored some nerf stuff from craigslist, after a tedious drive and frustration from instructions I finally ended up with all this junk. I don't know if it was worth it, but I'm happy. Essentially all the mods that were done were done by a 16 yr old kid, and I'm going to work on them during spring break to make them a bit prettier. And heres what I got...
A frick ton of ammo (stefans, taggers, buzzbee, stickies, streamlines) A magstrike with 4 clips, a rapid fire 20, a hyperfire, a buzzbee...thing, not really sure what it is, and a singled titan. All of which work perfectly.

Nerf Snapfire 8?

Hey guys (and gals!) I recently noticed some hype about a new dart tag blaster titled the snapfire. The blaster allegedly primes itself on the trigger pull making it semi-auto (and very useful). Supposedly there is a dial on the bottom indicating range to rate of fire, and the ability to change the ratio. I'm thinking this won't get much attention considering elite will be coming out, but I think the concept is cool.

Deals

Hey guys (and gals!) Derpy here, and I thought I might post some of my recent findings with you nerfers out there. Recently when I was out thrifting, I uncovered (literally) 2 nerf hornets. There was a blue one, and a red one. The blue one didn't work, and for some reason was more than the red one that DID work. I know now that I should have bought the blue one anyways, but its probably gone now. I also scored a recon for free. Its only getting ranges of 15ft for some reason, probably just needs cleaned up. Will be modding it soon.  Another find: on craigslist I was cruzing the "toys and games" section, and came across a nerf lot for $40. The post said "Most of them modded and will shoot farther than any stock toy guns." From what I can see from the picture, there are 2 painted nitefinders, a magstrike with 5 clips, a rapid fire 20, a tommy 20, and a singled titan.  The tommy 20 and titan are both painted, whereas the rest look relatively stock. I think I'm going to have to grab this deal before someone else does.  What are some of your best finds?  Share in the comments below.

New author

Hey nerfers. Just starting to author on this blog. I encourage you to stay a while ask Qs and learn a ton. I do a ton of modding and have done almost all the blaster currently for sale at least once and can easily help you with any problems or just general interest in modding.  If you find that i am not on the chat of this blog, check out the foam nation at www.foamnation.blogspot.com. Also a nice blog. Happy nerfing.

Hey yall :D

Hey guys, (and gals!) I just talked to a future author. He might be posting here soon. (I can't do all the work!) Heres a picture of some new blasters from the n-strike elite line. What do you guys think of these not-so-far-off blasters? I'm sort of mad (and glad) that they are creating a new ammo type. I'll have to buy a ton of the new ammo, thats money already down the drain, but I'm interested in this new dart type.  Anyways, while you wait for some beastly nerf content, heres some wisdom from a popular nerfer:
